Casa Museo del Campesino
Agriculture has always been one of the bases of the economy on the island, aware of the importance that this sector has had throughout history in San Bartolomé in Lanzarote you can visit the Museo del Campesino. The Museum of the peasant is located at the crossroads located in the town of San Bartolomé, the building attracts a lot of attention, the work of the artist César Manrique whose influence can be seen in the museum, with a purely Lanzarote style. Next to the farmer's museum is a spectacular figure of about 15 meters called Monument to Fecundity. From the road that passes next to the building you can see how the bright white walls stand out. Inside the museum we can find typical elements of the handicraft of the island of Lanzarote, information about the traditions of the area and how was the way of life of the farmers. The museum of the Farmer also keeps a fantastic treasure, in the courtyard of the building there is an entrance to a volcanic grotto that was used in the past for the extraction of stone. Museo Etnografico Tanit
Located in the heart of the island of Lanzarote, in the municipality of San Bartolomé is the Museo Etnográfico Tanit. It is worth mentioning that San Bartolomé was one of the first villages to be established in Lanzarote, so it has a wide and interesting history. To show what life was like in Lanzarote, this museum was created to review the uses and customs of the inhabitants. In the Museum you can see one of the first wineries that were installed on the island in addition to an old mansion of the eighteenth century. The Ethnological Museum Tanit aims to preserve and show the ethnographic heritage, and also aims to develop an extensive cultural work with activities to enrich and spread the idiosyncrasy of Lanzarote. The museum has even received awards such as the Center for Tourist and Cultural Interest of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. Playa Matagorda
Located in one of the best known places of Lanzarote is the Playa de Matagorda, in Puerto del Carmen. It is one of the great beaches in the area, near Playa Grande and Los Pocillos, is a perfect place to spend a wonderful day. The Playa de Matagorda has an area of 850 meters and 30 meters wide, the situation makes it one of the most touristic places with the best atmosphere in the area, being one of the the busiest coves of Lanzarote. The beach Matagorda has all the services to make the visit much more comfortable, to start with hammocks and sunshade rental, also the amplitude allows you to carry out sports activities in some areas . It is also a highly recommended site for windsurfers, because the winds make it a perfect place to practice it. The climate that can be enjoyed at the Playa de Matagorda is also perfect, the beach is sheltered from the trade winds which makes it a much more welcoming place both when it blows and when is hot. Molino de José María Gil
In San Bartolomé there is one of the most important mills in the whole area, it is known as Molino de José María Gil. The mill is one of the oldest in Lanzarote and is classified as Good of Cultural Interest, thanks to the good conservation of it. The mill was built in 1870, in the first part of the 20th century, in 1919 it was acquired by José María Gil. The Mill consists of a circular tower built in mud, stone and lime, the interior is distributed on three floors. The first of the plants was dedicated to the storage of tools and grain, the second plant left ground the gofio or flour and the last of the plants that is where the grain was overturned before being ground. In 1920 the mill was closed and replaced by a system that worked with diesel. It should be noted that the Molino de José María Gil had as a curiosity a wooden door through which the facilities were accessed whose lock was formed by wooden pieces without hardware that opened with a unique key made in the same material. El Molino is today one of the symbols of San Bartolomé and a must-see.
